Quote:

"A religious person accepts a certain set of beliefs as true and observes a certain set of rituals. A person of the Christian religion believes Jesus is God's Son and observes baptism and communion." - No Author
"This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." - 1 Corinthians 11:24

Analysis Paragraph:

Religion usually involves rituals and beliefs in a specific God. The quote above explains how rituals are applied to religion and how Christianity focuses on the belief in one God. Religion focuses on the belief in someone or something while spirituality focuses more on what you do to prove why you belief in that certain thing. For example: There is a ritual of communion. In some christian churches they practice communion and this is what it looks like. It's a time of worship to honor what Christ did for us. The wine represents the blood and the bread represents the body. My second quote explains why we do communion which is in recognition of Christ. You are supposed to analyze communion and detect yourself

Quote:

"Spirituality is the fact of being spiritual and is usually evidence by the act of doing spiritual things. Praying, meditating, reading scriptures, and giving to a charity are all things that a "spiritual" person might do." -No Author

Analysis Paragraph:

Spirituality is more fluid and open to individual interpretation. This quote explains how spirituality focuses more on the actual things you do and practice while religion is something you believe in. For example: If you believe in the quote I gave above than you probably read scriptures from the bible, pray, and give money to charity. Also, in the Islam culture they do these spiritual things, but just differently. Islamic people pray/meditate five times a day, read scriptures from the Quran, and give back to there masjids or mosques.

Quote:

"We can say that spirituality is an offshoot of religion." - Jose Bulao

Analysis Paragraph:

There are many differences between spirituality and religion, but in some ways they do go hand and hand meaning they are related. Both spirituality and religion believe in a higher power like Allah, God, and/or Jesus. Secondly, both require a relationship with a higher being. Religion is more about fear while spirituality focuses more on love. Third both of them respect the higher being and the things that surround that. Religion can always apply into spirituality in some way and this would be called religious spirituality. Therefore, spirituality is an offshoot of religion.

Quote:

"New research by a Boston University sociologist has found that the ideas of spirituality and religiosity are rarely at odds, but intersect often in the daily lives of people as they describe their spirituality." -Matthew Brown

Analysis Paragraph:

At Boston University one student said "I think of myself as spiritual because it doesn't matter what church I'm in. I am who I am." This student is making a statement about her beliefs in spirituality and how they are different from her thoughts about religion. She does however explain how she knows they tie into one another, but are different for every one. In the quote above, it explains the place for both spirituality and religion. It specifically mentions how spirituality and religion are mistaken for being the same thing, but they actually are quite different.

Quote:

"I think it could be said that the purpose of religion should be to lead us to spirituality." -No Author

Analysis Paragraph:

A catholic person makes a simple, but broad statement. Clearly telling the readers the opinion of both spirituality and religion. The anonymous author of this quote in my opinion says something different from the rest. This particular author focuses less on the difference between spirituality and religion and more how they work together to receive a certain outcome. According to this quote being catholic doesn't mean you have to choose what you believe in it means one leads to the other. One happens because of the other.

In conclusion, every religion has a different meaning. Some religions believe in only spirituality, while others believe in religion leading to spirituality, etc. We might use the same terms, but they don't effect us all in the same way. Each religion is unique in their beliefs in both spirituality and religion.
